I have to be on guard this time of year. The squirrels that live in my yard are out to eat and lop off lots of spring growth, starting with the crocuses. My experiment involves sprinkling ground cayenne pepper on anything that will be eaten to see if it will deter those furry gray animals or not. I wasn’t on top of it early enough last year so I am going to keep a watchful eye on my new vegetation. One thing I definitely noticed last year was what got eaten (crocuses, muscari, my white bleeding heart, certain hostas.)
I will keep you posted – I am on a mission.
