Having cayenne on the ground around the crocuses didn’t help. I tried to sprinkle some on the actual flower bud but I guess it didn’t work too well – the tips of several buds were eaten off. From a bird’s eye view, they look like a slice of millefiore glass (click on the above photo to see a closer look.) It is very pretty actually but I’m hoping most of the crocuses are left untouched. I might try spraying them with a crushed garlic/water mixture. The squirrels do stay away from the garlic I grow in my backyard.
I also noticed that the tip of my just emerging Twinleaf was eaten so I quickly put one of my handy fences around it.
Tomorrow calls for garlic spray measures – this is serious business.
